- Vitamin C contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and contributes to normal immune function
- Vitamin C helps with normal energy metabolism
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is an essential vitamin. The main source of vitamin C in our diet is things such as citrus fruits, potatoes, broccoli, paprika and Brussels sprouts.
Nutrients ingested in food can sometimes not be properly absorbed due to food processing, transport and incorrect food storage. This could also apply to how much Vitamin C we absorb. The risk of Vitamin C shortages are higher in smokers, older people, cancer patients or those with chronic disorders which result in inflammatory symptoms.
Vitamin C has several important functions in the body. During exercise, when we use oxygen in the body, free radicals are produced. Free radicals can attack muscles and connective tissue. To minimize the effect that free radicals have, the body uses antioxidants to neutralize them. Vitamin C has antioxidant properties and can contribute to the protection of cells against oxidative damage.
Not only that, but it plays a role in the immune system and can contribute to normal immune function during and after intense exercise. This is important as it has been shown that the immune system is weakened following a bout of exercise and therefore vitamin C may help to prevent this immunosuppression.
Vitamin C also contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of bones, blood vessels, skin and teeth and contributes to normal energy metabolism.
The Etixx Vit C sport supplement contains Vitamin C which is quickly absorbed in the body to help boost your Vitamin C levels whenever you need it.
